About Me: Robert Burns has been involved with honey bees and beekeeping in Kansas since the 6th grade in the early 1970’s. It was a field trip with his science class that got him started. Currently, his beekeeping experience stretches to 45+ years. Nearly half of his beekeeping time was before mites, and the other half has been with the mites. A native of Kansas and Overland Park, Robert has had the privilege of growing up in the KS suburbs. He worked downtown in Kansas City, MO, and currently keeps colonies in a stretch of locations ranging from the KCI Airport to his mother’s farm in Miami Co., KS where she has cattle and a few horses. Robert is the current Treasurer of one of Kansas’ larger local associations, the Northeastern Kansas Beekeepers, as well as the Kansas Honey Producers (Kansas State Beekeepers). He has given several presentations at other events such as the American Beekeeping Federation, and also Dr. Marion Ellis’ University of Nebraska’s Value-added Products Workshop.
